Applications are invited for the combined position of Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Executive Director of the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (RIPS) at The University of Mississippi. The school includes four academic departments (Pharmacy Practice, Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery, Pharmacy Administration, and BioMolecular Sciences), RIPS, and the Division of Professional Pharmacy Development. The school consists of approximately 73 full-time faculty, 146 staff members, 393 pre-professional students, 431 students enrolled in professional programs leading to a B.S. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharm.D. degree, and 116 students enrolled in graduate programs leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.

RIPS employs 40 research scientists and consists of four centers: the National Center for Natural Products Research, the Center for Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management, the Pii Center for Pharmaceutical Technology, and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science. RIPS was established to discover and disseminate knowledge of natural drug products, develop and commercialize new products, improve public health, and stimulate the economy.

The Division of Pharmacy Professional Development develops professionals to drive practice advancement in Mississippi and beyond through continuing pharmaceutical education and other professional services for internal and external audiences. The school underwent a curriculum transformation for its Pharm.D. program that was implemented in the fall of 2018. Student pharmacists are now in a modular, integrated curriculum based on major body systems that is focused on patient-centered care. The Pharm.D. program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) until 2028.

The School of Pharmacy (SOP) is dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) throughout pharmacy education, research, and the profession. Through the new Equity in Action Plan, the school seeks to: improve recruitment of members of underrepresented groups among faculty, staff, and students; prepare students to provide care for diverse populations; ensure pharmacy practice experiences provide optimal environments for student learning and support; assess and address SOP climate to support all members of the school; and align the school’s processes to promote and integrate DEI efforts.

The school operates on two campuses: Oxford and Jackson. Students of the Pharm.D. program spend their first two years studying at the school’s Oxford campus, and the third and fourth years in coursework and rotations at the school’s campus at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson. The Dean’s office resides on the main campus in Oxford, a beautiful and charming community of approximately 26,000 people.

The school on the Oxford campus includes over 300,000 square feet of critical infrastructure to support research and instructional activities, including a phase 1 clinical trials unit. The school also has approximately 30,000 square feet of instructional and research space on the UMMC campus that consists of 17 classrooms, four research laboratories, two clinical exam rooms, and a 173-seat auditorium. In 2019-2020, the School of Pharmacy’s faculty and staff secured $19.2 million in external research funding. In addition, the school has numerous faculty members who are in leadership roles in national and state pharmacy organizations, as well as other scientific and professional bodies.
